
Let’s Talk Carbon Fiber IR Heating
Most people are used to those old-school quartz heaters with the tungsten wires. Our carbon fiber lamps are a different beast. We use a carbon fiber filament instead, which lets us pump out short-wave radiation. The big win here? The heat actually gets deep into your materials, and it does it fast.
The Nitty-Gritty on Power
Basically, your wattage and voltage dictate how much heat you’re actually throwing at your target. If you go with a high-wattage tube, you get a tighter heat spot and things warm up almost instantly. We build these to fit whatever power grid you’ve already got in your plant. If we set them up for high voltage, you can use thinner wires over longer distances without worrying about losing power along the way. But here’s a pro tip: high power puts a lot of stress on your reflectors. If they’re dirty or pitted, you’re just wasting energy. Keep them clean.
How They’re Built
To keep the filament from oxidizing and burning out, we wrap it in a high-purity quartz envelope. It’s a protective shell that keeps everything running. Depending on what you’re heating, we can add a gold or aluminum coating to that quartz. This helps the lamp “talk” to your workpiece better, making sure the material actually absorbs the heat rather than just bouncing it away. As for the plugs, we stick to the basics—R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re designed to be drop-in replacements for most OEM setups, so you don’t have to rewire your whole floor. Just make sure those connections are tight. A loose terminal leads to arcing, which creates heat where you don’t want it and kills the lamp way too soon.
The Trade-offs
The best part about carbon fiber is the speed. These things hit full temperature almost the second you flip the switch. If you’re running a conveyor belt or blowing PET bottles, that lack of warm-up time is a lifesaver. But there is a catch. Quartz is brittle. If your machine shakes too much or your brackets are slightly off, the tubes can snap. They aren’t bulletproof. You’ll want a rock-solid frame to make sure they aren’t taking a beating while they work.
