Getting the heat just right Wattage and voltage are where things get tricky. Sure, cranking up the wattage gets the lamp hot faster, but you have to be careful. If the voltage doesn’t match your power supply, you’ll fry the filament in no time. We usually keep these at a low-to-medium power setting. Why? Because we don’t want any pets getting surface burns. If you’re putting these in a tiny crate, the air can get stuffy and overheat quickly. To keep things safe, we suggest adding a thermal cutoff switch or a PID controller. It’s basically an insurance policy against overheating. Built to last (and move) We use high-purity quartz for the tubes because it doesn’t crack when the temperature swings wildly. Standard glass just can’t handle that kind of stress. Plus, carbon fiber is a beast when it comes to vibration. If you’re moving crates around or shifting heating stations, these lamps won’t just snap like a tungsten filament would. And when the lamp finally does wear out? We use simple plug-and-play connectors. You just pop the old one out and slide a new one in. No headache. The trade-offs These lamps are all about radiant heat. They warm the pet, not the air around them. That’s great because you save energy and don’t need a massive setup. But there is a catch. Carbon fiber doesn’t last forever. Eventually, the fiber degrades and the light dims. You’ll want to keep an eye on the brightness or use a thermocouple to make sure your pet is still getting enough warmth.
