A Real-World Look at Carbon Fiber IR Heating Tubes
If you’re used to those old-school quartz lamps with the tungsten coils, carbon fiber tubes are going to feel a bit different. We’ve swapped out the metal for carbon fiber, and that one change completely flips the script on how heat actually hits your workpiece. The heat and the power Here’s the thing: these tubes are fast. Really fast. When you’re running a high-output line, you can’t afford to sit around waiting for things to warm up. Carbon fiber hits those target temperatures almost instantly. Now, we can build these to fit whatever voltage your grid is already using, but keep an eye on your wattage. Higher wattage means more punch, but if your wiring or controllers aren’t up to the task, you’re just asking to fry your terminals. What they’re actually made of We wrap that carbon filament in high-purity quartz. We use quartz because it basically gets out of the way, letting the shortwave IR radiation pass through without soaking up the energy. And if your specific process needs a different kind of heat, we can add coatings to the glass to tweak the spectrum. As for getting them into your machine, we stick to the classics—R7s or SK15 connectors. They just slide right in. No fuss, no weird adapters, and they stay put even when your machines are vibrating like crazy. Where they shine (and where they don’t) These are a dream for things like blowing PET bottles, curing paint, or welding plastics. You get a tiny footprint and a ramp-up time that makes forced-air ovens look like they’re standing still. But, a word of caution. Quartz is glass. It’s tough, but it’s not “drop it on a concrete floor” tough. It can’t take a physical beating. Even more important? Watch out for thermal shock. If you’ve got a tube screaming hot and you spray it with cold water, it’ll crack in a heartbeat. Just be smart about your cooling cycles, and your tubes will last a lot longer.
