
Getting Your Inkjet Curing Right with Carbon Fiber IR Lamps
If you’re printing on industrial materials, you know the struggle. You need those solvents to vanish or that UV ink to set now, or everything just smudges. We’ve found that carbon fiber heating lamps are the way to go. Why? Because they spread heat evenly. No more guessing if the middle of the sheet is as dry as the edges, which is a common headache with those old quartz halogen tubes. The heat side of things Here is how it works: electricity runs through a woven carbon filament. This creates a broad spectrum of heat that sinks into the ink without torching your material. When you’re setting up your curing tunnel, it really comes down to wattage per centimeter. More power means you can crank up the conveyor speed. But be careful. Push it too hard and you’ll start warping your substrates. It’s a bit of a balancing act. Built for the shop floor Let’s be honest—factories are rough on equipment. Quartz glass is fragile; it breaks. Carbon fiber lamps are usually tucked into reinforced envelopes that can actually take a beating. We also make sure the end-cap connectors fit right in, so you can just swap them into your existing setup without a fuss. Plus, you don’t get those annoying “hot spots” you see with metal coils. Everything dries smooth across the whole width of the web. The reality of using them These are a dream for high-speed lines running plastics and metals. They heat up almost instantly. You aren’t sitting around wasting power and time waiting for a long warm-up cycle. But there is a catch. Carbon fiber lamps don’t hit the same extreme peak temperatures as short-wave IR quartz. If your specific ink needs a massive blast of heat in less than a second, these might feel a bit weak. For most standard solvent inks, though, the consistency is worth far more than raw heat. Just one tip: make sure your ventilation is strong. You need to pull those evaporated solvents away from the lamps quickly, otherwise, you’ll get a sticky residue buildup on the glass.
