If you’re looking to replace the heating elements in a KTK oval press, you already know it’s not as simple as just grabbing any lamp with the right wattage. To actually get a “drop-in” fit that works, you have to nail the physical size and the way the Near Infrared (NIR) light hits the fabric. If those aren’t spot on, you’re just asking for trouble. The heat balance We stick with a 1000W rating for a reason. It’s the sweet spot where the ink cures perfectly without scorching your shirts. Since NIR lamps push energy in that shortwave spectrum, the heat dives straight into the ink. Here’s the thing: if you go too low on the wattage, you’ll have to crawl along with your belt speed just to get a decent cure. But go too high? You risk burning the fabric. It’s a delicate balance. Keeping it running The great thing about shortwave NIR lamps is how fast they ramp up. You can get moving almost instantly. But that intensity comes with a price. It puts a lot of stress on the quartz. You’ve got to be obsessive about keeping the glass clean. A bit of ink splatter or a layer of dust might not seem like a big deal, but it creates a “hot spot” that can crack the tube wide open. While you’re swapping the lamp, do yourself a favor and scrub those reflectors. It ensures the heat is actually hitting the fabric where it’s supposed to, rather than wasting energy.
