If you’re trying to build something that needs to be incredibly stiff but weighs next to nothing, these 10mm tubes are usually the answer. We make them by baking carbon filaments and resin under a lot of heat and pressure. Why? Because it gets rid of the air bubbles in the walls, leaving you with a piece of gear that’s solid all the way through. The Strength Stuff Here’s the thing about the 10mm size: it’s a sweet spot. It handles twisting and bending way better than a piece of plastic or aluminum that weighs the same. Depending on how thick you want the walls, these tubes can take a serious amount of weight without buckling. We mix in unidirectional fibers to keep them stiff lengthwise, but we also add woven layers. That’s the secret sauce that keeps the tube from crushing when you clamp it down tight. The Catch (Because there’s always one) Carbon fiber isn’t magic. It has its quirks. While it beats steel on the scale, it’s brittle. If you over-tighten a bolt or take a hard hit with something sharp, it won’t bend—it’ll just crack. And a heads-up: watch out for galvanic corrosion. If you bolt carbon directly to aluminum without a little insulating layer in between, the carbon will actually eat through the metal over time. Trust me, you don’t want to find that out the hard way. Where this actually works We see these pop up everywhere—robotic arms, drone frames, or mounts for sensitive sensors. One of the best parts is that they don’t really shrink or grow when the temperature in your shop swings. That makes them a great swap for steel supports, especially if you’re trying to kill some vibration without adding bulk to your machine. It just feels cleaner.
